About the Artist
Tom Harbrecht, American Landscape Painter
Tom Harbrecht is a cental Ohio native. He graduated from Otterbein College with a degree in physical education and math, and Marshall University in West Virginia with a masters degree in physical education. He has been a high school teacher and coach, Naval Officer in the U.S. Navy SEAL Teams, a technical advisor for Orion Pictures, and a freelance artist and illustrator. After Tom returned to Ohio he headed back to school to pursue a degree in painting and drawing from Columbus College of Art and Design and has been making art ever since.
Tom is one of six artists who founded the Ohio Plein Air Society (OPAS). In 2003 these six artists participated in The Paint Ohio Project where they painted eighty-eight historically significant sights from each of Ohio's counties in coordination with the Ohio Historical Society to celebrate Ohio's Bicentennial. The paintings were exhibited and can be seen in the book publication, The Land We Call Ohio.
Tom considers himself to be an American Landscape painter and he expresses a deep fascination with the landscapes and the oceans of America. Many of his landscape paintings are of the Central and Southeastern Ohio areas.The variety of Tom's past careers adds an interesting dimension to his work.
Many of his works are represented by the Studios On High Gallery in the Short North District in Columbus, Ohio and the Turner Studio and Gallery in Clintonvville, Ohio.
